Return To Racing: Run Two

I have been on holiday the last two weeks so I haven't ran okay, sorry. Today's run was a shortened version of the route I took you on last time.

Twenty six degrees isn't the best conditions for running but that's what we found ourself facing this evening. The fist five minutes had me giving serious thought to turning back and going out later when it was later but 'Owa Owa' by Lil Tecca got me through this phase.

Due to the heat and how I was feeling, I thought I was going at a slower pace than the last run. However, as we reached the bottom of the downhill stretch it turned out this wasn't really the case. We take the right turn and start the ascent, and my mouth is incredibly dry, still listening to Owa Owa at this point. It also became apparent at this point that my failure to sh*t before leaving may catch up to me.

As we approach the alley of shade we'll call it, I can see golfers, so I am happy. I can run in confidence. However, as I enter the path I'm hit with the surprise of seeing three teenagers on a motorbike come speeding from the other direction with another guy chasing them. I run past them with a smile but it's a façade. They reach the bottom where alley meets road and they stop. I'm thinking 'sh*t they're coming back for me' as I had my phone in my hand. Turns out I was overthinking. As I climb up the steps the need to sh*t gets desperate and the twenty three minute mark is where things got tough. Serious thought was given to squatting in the bushes and hoping the golfers don't see me. No, I'm better than that. Onwards.

As we reach the gravel and then eventually the downhill on the main road, I come up to a hypothesis. The need to sh*t is exacerbated when running uphill, downhill eases it. I savour the few moments I get where I don't feel like this run will end in disaster before heading uphill again.

Despite their literally only being five minutes left of the run I feel like I won't make it. Risk it or walk it? Fortunately, it never got to the point where I had to walk and I reach the corner of the close. Relief. Six kilometers in thirty seven minutes on the dot.

Today's conclusion is if you need to sh*t and you can't, go for a run. You'll soon need it.

The end.
